That $300 hotel room in Miami will now cost you $430

U.S. consumer prices increased 8.5% in March from the year prior — the highest annual ascent seen since 1981, according to the latest Consumer Price Index figures released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, two segments that will heavily affect travelers — fuel and hotels — saw price surges well above the national average.

Hotel prices are up 29% from a year ago, bested only by a 70% increase in fuel oil, a 48% increase in gas prices and a 35% increase in the price of used cars. Airfare price increases, at 24%, came in just below the hotel sector.

Getting back to business as usual; Some American Express Centurion lounges back to regular hours

Good news for early birds. It’s looking like some American Express Centurion® lounges are getting closer and closer to business as usual. The American Express Centurion Lounge at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is now open beginning at 5 a.m.

It had been welcoming travelers at 8 a.m. since it re-opened back in June in a fabulous new space. An eagle-eyed reader pointed out the new hours Saturday morning on Instagram.

American Airlines A321neo First Class (TPA-LAX)

To kick off our journey to Hawaii, we flew American Airlines’ A321neo first class from Tampa to Los Angeles. I’ve never reviewed American’s A321neo before, so this seemed like a good opportunity, especially since American recently reinstated pre-pandemic service in first class.

For a non-premium transcon flight on American, this ended up being a pretty great experience. It was also quite entertaining, because I swear just about everyone in first class was off-their-rocker drunk. I guess that’s what people do when traveling late at night on a Friday?
