The Black Forest is more than just a cake

I haven’t always thought of Germany as having good food. What about the Black Forest? So, here’s that well-known cake. But in reality, the area around the Black Forest National Park in southwest Germany has an incredible 11 Michelin stars and 11 Bib Gourmand awards.

For the record, the first national park in Baden-Württemberg was opened in 2014, and it is right in the middle of the Black Forest, as its name suggests.

It covers approximately 25,000 acres and has 27 towns divided into three districts. The park was made to show off the destination’s above-average number of good restaurants in a setting that also shows off some of its most beautiful natural features.

People who want to try the best food in the park can head to the town of Baiersbronn and the area around it. Baiersbronn was already known as a place to go for great food, but the 2022 Michelin Guide made its reputation even stronger.

This year, two of its best restaurants, the Schwarzwaldstube at the Hotel Traube Tonbach, run by Torsten Michel, and the Restaurant Bareiss at the same hotel, run by chef Claus-Peter Lumpp, both kept their three Michelin stars.
