Imagine this: you’ve been whisked away to an absolutely breathtaking spot. Your preferences are meticulously considered as delectable food and drink are prepared. There are pools available for swimming.
Mountains that undulate and are covered in vineyards and orchards.
Every single day, you start your day with a carefully selected activity. A hot springs bath A trek in the woods led by an experienced guide A hard session in the sauna or a fitness class led by a personal trainer are both great options.
Imagine going to that paradise, taking a break from the stresses of everyday life, and luxuriating in the lap of luxury there.
When you get back home, you find that you are physically fitter than you were when you left.
Perhaps even in the best form of your life at this point.
This is the basis of the Weight Loss Vacation package offered by the Dolce Vita Hotel Preidlhof in Northern Italy, which is a five-star luxury resort.
The diet market is worth 71 billion dollars, and this bundle is a part of a growing trend in the industry.
There are now dozens of weight loss retreats all over the world, and each of them claims to be able to jumpstart a client’s physical transformation or assist them in losing excess pounds.
While all of these programmes strive to accomplish essentially the same things, they go about it in quite different ways.
Some people adopt a more rigorous, military-style training regimen.
Other destinations, such as Preidlhof, are high-end spas, while others, such as the ones that focus on sports (a variation made clear in the marketing).
There are health retreats as well as fitness farms. One programme in Australia markets itself as a “fat camp” for adults.
Some people have trouble with the cultural obsession with losing weight and not being called “fat,” which can lead to obsessive behaviours and mental health problems.
Still, weight loss retreats are appealing to people who want to change their bodies. A person is thrown into a place that is very different from what they are used to. They have access to nutritionists, trainers, and plans that are made just for them based on their fitness goals. It can seem like cheating on a diet.
But it costs a lot to feel that way. Weight-loss retreats can cost up to a few thousand dollars per week. And while people may see some changes at first during their programmes, many end up gaining weight back when they go home because they haven’t learned healthy habits that they can keep up. It’s the same reason why many contestants on The Biggest Loser have trouble when they leave the programme.
