Detroit, also known as “Motor City,” is recognised for its rebirth, culture, and history.

People say that the city is a must-stop because of its “thriving cultural scene,” “historical charm,” “tonnes of character,” and “friendly people.”

Detroit is one of the best-kept secrets in the country. It’s not too touristy, so you can enjoy exploring without a lot of people. Some of the best things about the city are its old buildings, Motown music, thriving sports scene, art scene, and wide range of restaurants, craft breweries, and cocktail bars.

The border between Canada and the United States is only a short boat ride away on the gorgeous Detroit River; hence, you may maximise the value of your vacation by going to both countries at the same time.

The city is bustling with activity, making progress, and maintaining its allure in just the perfect amounts.
This travel guide to Detroit puts together the best the city has to offer, and it is certain to have your travel heart racing in anticipation of your trip.

Let’s talk about Detroit, which is a fantastic city, now that we’ve established the context for the discussion.

Defoes LifeStyle

There are plenty of fun things to do in Detroit, just like there are plenty of good places to eat. The city has a lot of history, but there are also a lot of other things to see and do. Here are a few things that should be on your list of things to do in Detroit.

1. One Campus Martius
The biggest indoor waterfall is there: What else can I say? One Campus Martius is an office building with seventeen floors and a water feature in the lobby that has become a tourist attraction. The waterfall goes up about fourteen floors and is finished off by a rainbow of glass kites in the air.

2. Guardian Building
The Guardian Building is a must-see if you like architecture and history. This building, which was built in the 1920s, is still called the Cathedral of Finance. The Guardian Building is one of the best skyscrapers in the world, made in the Art Deco style. way too cool.

3. Z Parking Building
I didn’t know that there was so much going on in the arts and culture scene in Detroit. The Z Parking Structure is both practical and gives people a chance to see art. The 10-story parking garage has one of the best views of the city, and it also has murals by artists from all over the world. Each level shows a different thing. Yes, FOMO is a real thing, so go to each level to see what kind of wanderlust you can find.

Pro tip: Instead of stopping at each place separately, I’d suggest you visit all of the following places on the same day: You can walk from the Z Parking Structure to One Campus Martius and then to the Guardian Building.

4. Belle Isle
Belle Isle is one of those places you just have to see. It’s only a short drive from downtown. There is a lot to see, like the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory and the James Scott Memorial Fountain. Really, you could spend the whole afternoon there and not run out of things to do. This is also a great place to see the city, especially at sunset.

5. Detroit Jazz Festival
The Detroit Jazz Festival brings great music to the city every year, and it just so happened that we were there that weekend. The Detroit Foundation Hotel was just a few blocks away from this year’s festival. Also, VIP tickets can be bought, but this event is free and has great music. If you really want to feel what the city is like, you should go during the Jazz Festival.

6. Detroit Tigers Baseball Game
There are FOUR major sports in Detroit: football, basketball, baseball, and ice hockey. Comerica Park is by far the coolest place to watch sports. A carousel and a ferris wheel are located inside the stadium.Oh, they also have real baseball.

7. Look around Corktown
The oldest neighbourhood in the city is Corktown. There are a lot of great places to eat and cute little shops. Don’t forget to visit Astro Coffee!

8. Party with a punch bowl
Want to eat something and have some fun at the same time? The best place for both is at Punch Bowl Social. Punch Bowl Social is a cool place for adults to hang out because they can bowl, play arcade games, and eat tasty food. Visit during the day or at night—it doesn’t matter.

9. Market in the East
You must go to Eastern Market if you go to Detroit. There are market vendors, restaurants, retail shops, and a lot more in this area. All in all, it’s a cool part of Detroit that everyone should see.

Don’t miss these museums and works of art.
It’s crazy how much art there is in Detroit. This city has really opened its arms to the arts community and made them a part of its culture. There are many museums in Detroit, but we only had time to visit two:

1. Museum of Motown
MOTOWN is also located in Detroit. There’s no good reason not to stop by the Motown Museum when you’re in Detroit. It’s so cool to see where some of the biggest names in R&B recorded their songs because the places are full of history. Hitsville, U.S.A., is the real deal.

2. The Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art
The name “MOCAD” comes from the fact that it is one of the more modern art museums in Detroit. Their most recent show, called Sonic Rebellion: Music as Resistance, just opened. MOCAD has a great space, but it also has a great little gift shop with books and art by Detroit artists and a great little café called Café 78.

You are invited to experience all of the allure and culture that the Motor City has to offer. You only need to make your flight reservation and then get ready to leave.

The charming and cultural city of Detroit is waiting for you!
