Even though it’s an American holiday at heart, some of London’s best restaurants are celebrating…
Thanksgiving is the time of year when people all over the United States get together for a big meal to celebrate the beginning of the harvest. The event has been held every year since the beginning of the 17th century. Thanksgiving has changed a lot over the years, and it’s better for it. Turkeys are roasted, sides are set out on pretty tables, and pumpkin and pecan pies are topped with a lot of cream. Even though the celebrations started in the United States, they have spread to other countries.
Take your taste buds across the pond by having a great Thanksgiving dinner at Madison, a favourite rooftop restaurant in London. After dark, you can enjoy the holiday atmosphere and a three-course meal while getting an unbeatable view of the city’s skyline. Some of the tasty foods on offer are jumbo shrimp corn dogs; chicken waffles with cheddar, jalapenos, bourbon, and maple butter; and maple-baked salmon fillets with buttered spinach. For dessert, Mississippi mud pie is served with rich coffee ice cream, and the talented mixologists make a wide range of great cocktails. For an international experience, try one of the new drinks made with Kah Anejo tequila.
Celebrate Thanksgiving with stacks of pancakes at different places in London, where the best pancake place in London is stepping things up. Along with its regular line-up of treats with berries and sugar syrups, Where the Pancakes Are is adding a holiday treat perfect for the American holiday: Dutch batter served with tender turkey, roasted Brussels sprouts, pumpkin, poached cranberries, and sage butter.
STK Steakhouse is known for its atmosphere, stylish clientele, and classic American dishes. It is also one of the best places to celebrate Thanksgiving in London this year because it has a wide range of seasonal cocktails and tasty specials. The signature roast turkey comes with sage stuffing, maple-baked sweet potatoes, and sautéed green beans. Instead of gravy, cranberry-orange chutney can be served instead. If you don’t have room for dessert, try one of the fruity cocktails at the bar. Strawberry Cobblers and This Shit Is Bananas are two of the more tropical drinks that can help you feel less full.
Galvin Bar and Grill is without a doubt the most luxurious place to eat in Russell Square. It has been that way since 1898, when Charles Fitzroy Doll first designed it. Now that it is run by the Galvin brothers, who also run Galvin at the Windows in Mayfair and Galvin La Chapelle in the City, the restaurant’s talented kitchen team is giving the most American of holidays a British twist. Start with Dorset crab and sweet pumpkin cakes before digging into a classic plate of fried blonde breed turkey with all the fixings. If there’s room, slices of sticky pecan pie are a great way to end the night.
This year, the American holiday is being celebrated at the Cadogan Arms in Chelsea with tangy Woodford Reserve cocktails, classic American dishes, and friends who haven’t seen each other in a while. The menu is full of hearty dishes put together by executive chef Alex Harper and culinary director James Knappett (of Kitchen Table, which has two Michelin stars). After the prawn cocktails come the turkey roasts, which are piled high with sides like honey-glazed parsnips with truffles and Brussels sprouts with chestnuts. For dessert, pecan pie slices are topped with dollops of creamy yoghurt sorbet.
