One such island is also home to one of Australia’s most iconic beach resorts, the Intercontinental Hayman Island. Long before the current hotel existed, though, Hayman was first developed for tourism back in the 1940s. Then, in the 1980s a massive new hotel was built to the tune of AU$300 million. Following successive sales and refurbishments (plus another AU$80 million restoration after it was hit by two cyclones), Hayman Island reopened as part of the luxury chain One&Only, back in 2014.
