1. THE POCONOS, PENNSYLVANIA
Travel time from LaGuardia Airport is around two hours by car (LGA)
The fall foliage is very breathtaking, and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
The Pocono Mountains are noted for their breathtaking lakes, valleys, and forested peaks that “literally” light up in the fall. These mountains may be found in the state of Pennsylvania. Visit the Delaware Water Gap, which is located on the border between New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and you will find yourself surrounded by beautiful waterfalls and views that will take your breath away. Visit around the middle to late part of October for the most vibrant colours.
2. ACADIA, MAINE
Travel time from Bangor International Airport is around 1.25 hours by car (BGL)
We recommend it since there are less people there, the weather is usually crisp, and the trails are great.
Fall in Acadia, Maine is the greatest season to visit because there are fewer tourists and the foliage is very breathtaking. Trek the popular Beehive Loop path, which will lead you up a bit of a rock scramble that is well worth it for the panoramic views that you will receive at the summit. If you are feeling daring, you should hike the Beehive Loop trail.
After you have finished soaking in the breathtaking views, you may tour the downtown area of Bar Harbor, make stops at the local coffee shops, and reward yourself with a well-deserved lobster roll (believe us, getting a lobster roll while in Maine is practically a need).
3. EASTERN SHORE, MARYLAND
Travel time from Baltimore/Washington International Airport is around 2 hours by car (BWI)
Why We Think You Should Get It:
The changing of the seasons, a more comfortable climate, and a storied past
After the heat of summer has passed, the Eastern Shore of Maryland transforms into a mystical and colourful travel destination, with leaves in every shade of red, gold, and yellow imaginable. Visit for the fall colours, but linger for the friendly atmosphere and educational opportunities. You may also take a trip to the Chesapeake Wine Trail to sample local wines and participate in one of the many different events that are held throughout the year.
4. WOODSTOCK, VERMONT
The Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (SHD/KSHD) is located a one-hour drive away from the destination.
Why We Think You Should Go: Autumn colours, apple picking, and quaint country atmosphere
Visit Woodstock, Vermont in the fall to see a town that appears like it was plucked straight from a picture postcard. When you take a stroll through ancient Woodstock Village, the most picturesque neighbourhood in downtown Woodstock, not only will the foliage be unparalleled, but you will also have the distinct impression that you have travelled through time. Visit some of the local country shops, restaurants, or cafes while you’re there, and make the most of your time there. Beautiful farms can be found in the Woodstock area as well. You can go apple picking at a nearby orchard, play pumpkin bowling at Billings Farm, or try local cheeses at Sugarbush Farm. All of these activities are available at local farms.
5. SEDONA, ARIZONA
Driving time is around two hours from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
Reasons why we think you should go include the excellent hiking, the abundance of things to do, and the breathtaking scenery.
Sedona is a prime location for hiking and other outdoor activities throughout the year, but during the fall, when the leaves change colour and temps drop, the town reaches an entirely new level of beauty. There are paths and walks available for people of all experience levels and interests, but we highly recommend making your way to one of the well-known vortexes in Sedona for an adventure that you won’t find anywhere else. There are many beautiful drives that offer vistas that are comparable to those seen on foot, so if you feel like taking a break from walking, you won’t be disappointed. You can also sign up for a Sedona Pink Jeep trip, which will take you on an off-road journey to some of the most famous attractions in the area.
