While priced well below standard monthly rates, it requires a digital subscription, presenting some challenges for visitors. Students can benefit from a reduced price, making this an attractive option for the younger demographic.
Hungary has introduced two types of travel cards catering to diverse travel needs. The national travel card, priced at around €49 for 30 days, offers unlimited access to every bus and train line in Hungary operated by various railway companies, excluding municipal services. Students enjoy a substantial 90% reduction in the price.
In addition, Hungary has launched county travel cards, allowing users to access bus and rail services within one of the country’s 19 counties. Priced at approximately €25, these cards also offer a 90% discount for students.
Foreign citizens, including tourists, can purchase these travel cards, providing an excellent option for those planning extended stays in Hungary. Eligible individuals, such as students with valid IDs, can also benefit from discounted rates as foreign citizens.
Hungary’s travel cards are available through a widespread network of over 1,100 sale points nationwide. These include MÁV-START ticket offices, vending machines, the MÁV app, Volánbusz ticket offices, buses, and GYSEV ticket offices, ensuring user accessibility.
