No matter what you like, Vienna will make you fall in love with it. The city has a long and fascinating past, beautiful architecture, delicious food, and classical music and art begging to be discovered. You can spend your days going to the museums, hopping from cafe to cafe to find the right “melange,” or seeing the beautiful cultural sites around the Ringstrasse. At night, you can party with other people at the beach bars or nightclubs along the Danube Canal.
Take a walking tour through Vienna’s Innere Stadt to learn about its history and see its beautiful buildings. There is a mix of old and new architecture, like the famous Staatsoper, which is near new shopping streets. There are also a lot of beautiful churches and museums that you can spend all day visiting.
Explore the culture of coffeehouses by going from one to the next. Try the decadent desserts at Cafe Central, which was the place where thinkers in Vienna met in the 1800s, and have a melange at the pretty pink Cafe Diglas while you watch people.
Feel like a kid again by going to the old Prater Amusement Park, where you can play bumper cars or ride the big Ferris wheel and get amazing views of the city from the top.
Like other places in Europe, the Christmas Market season is one of the most beautiful times to visit Vienna. From the end of November to the end of the year, there are many holiday markets set up around the city. These markets sell handmade goods and artist crafts, as well as tasty treats and drinks like warm glühwein. You can drink your mulled wine out of festive mugs that are unique to the market you’re at. When you’re done, you can either return the mugs and get your two-euro deposit back, or you can keep the mug as a unique reminder of your trip.
COFFEE
Cafe Central is the centre of Vienna, and it has been since the 1830s. Intellectuals would come to talk and share ideas over coffee, sometimes staying for hours under the ornate ceilings while others read newspapers and tried the delicate treats. The beauty of this cafe will make you feel like you’ve gone back in time.
BREAKFAST
The people of Vienna always seem to be in a hurry, so take advantage of a delicious breakfast. The best place to do this is in the first district, in the quiet, secret tea room Haas & Haas, under Stephansdom Cathedral. The best way to start your day in Vienna will be with creamy eggs, tasty scones, and of course, the richest and most delicious hot chocolate you can find. Take a few minutes to look around the shop afterwards so you can buy some of the fantastic hot chocolate mixtures to bring home.
DINNER
A Heuriger, a traditional Viennese wine tavern, is the best place to go if you want to eat traditional Austrian food.
In the first district, which is in the middle of the city, there is a restaurant called Figlmuller. It has the biggest schnitzels you can imagine, as well as Austrian favourites like kasespatzle, potato salad, and hearty soups. Not only is there always wine, but most nights, there is also live traditional music.
