Alessandro Manzoni, Leonardo DaVinci, Albert Einstein, Ernest Hemingway, and George Clooney have all declared Milan the city of the heart.

These lovely folks help to make Milan a unique place. There’s always a cause to follow these celeb-filled routes on your next trip to Milan (or maybe it’s your first!).

Milan and beyond for George Clooney
What keeps George Clooney returning to his favourite property near Lake Como, midway between Milan and Switzerland?

In reality, Versace and Virgin CEO Richard Branson have private villas in this lake region and frequently vacation in and around Milan. You’ll understand why and nod in agreement once you’re standing on the gently curving slope overlooking Lake Como.

The lake area is a short drive from Milan, embodies natural splendour and quiet, small-town life. You’ll find yourself among rolling hills covered in olive groves and lemon trees (yep, they’re not only on the Amalfi Coast! ), on a secluded treasure island with magnificent gardens, or sipping Cappuccino on a lake view patio.

Lake Como’s serene blue colour and peacefulness are ideal for self-rejuvenation or quiet time with loved ones. It’s no surprise that George Clooney returns year after year.

Milan’s Alessandro Manzoni
Alessandro Manzoni, one of the most prominent Romantic figures in Italian literature, was born tobe a true Milanese, which is becoming increasingly rare these days.

Many of Manzoni’s works were inspired by Milan and can still be traced to plot lines around the city’s historic core today.

Manzoni’s house museum, Casa del Manzoni, is a fantastic location to start. Not only is it the family home where Manzoni lived and died for decades, but the house-museum architecture is also a gem-like specimen of a classic Milanese palace (“palazzo” in Italian).

Manzoni’s bedrooms are shockingly plain and modest behind the neo-classical, exquisite orange and beige façade.

There is also a beautiful exhibition on Manzoni’s locations, which are sites in Milan that are deeply connected to the emotions of Manzoni’s characters.

Milan, Leonardo da Vinci’s
Leonardo da Vinci, the all-time classic Renaissance man, spent his most productive era in Milan. You won’t want to miss his world-famous “Last Supper” fresco at Santa Maria Delle Grazie church, so make your reservation at least three months in advance.

The Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza, gave Da Vinci a beautiful vineyard immediately across from the “Last Supper” mural. It is now known as Leonardo’s Vineyard, a charming, green, and beautifully designed place to unwind and stroll.

Believe it or not, the current owners are renewing the vine in the manner Leonardo would have done it —with a white grape from the Renaissance-era Lombardy area. The renaissance-style vineyard from the 16th century is now an ultra-chic hangout in the centre of Milan.

While enjoying appetizers and beverages in Leonardo’s once-forgotten vineyard, enjoy the wind and outdoor vistas.

Milan by Umberto Boccioni
Boccioni was a revolutionary artist who produced the well-known Futurist bronze sculpture Unique Forms of Continuity in Space. Boccioni was also a member of the Italian Futurism movement, whose objective was to sever all ties with the past to establish a modern aesthetic for the new modern age.

As the archetypal Italian city embodying modernity, Milan was the ideal laboratory for Boccioni’s avant-garde ideas. To view this remarkable era in international art history and contemporary Italy, travel to the Museo del Novecento, located directly close to Milan’s famed cathedral; this is the place to go if you want to see a fantastic collection of Italian modern art, particularly pieces from the revolutionary Futurism movement.

Few people realize it, but Futurism was formed in Milan, and Milan served as a source of inspiration for the Italian avant-garde. During Boccioni’s period, most of his creative expressions on quick speed, new man, and new space emanated from the city of Milan.

Milan is a wealthy entrepreneur
According to Ministry of Economy estimates, Milan is the wealthiest city in Italy, followed by Rome. When we think of affluent individuals, we think of technology magnets and businesspeople from the United States, Japan, and China.

We don’t pay much attention to the majority of our European rivals. Nonetheless, there are many immensely affluent people in the

former nations. Milan is host to some of the most successful enterprises in Italy. Silvio Berlusconi adores the countryside just outside Milan: Monza and Brianza are home to many wealthy residents, which comes as no surprise.

This location is particularly tempting because of the clean and lovely sites only a few minutes away from downtown. On the other hand, Giorgio Armani prefers to live in the city. His apartment in the heart of the town is a work of beauty in and of itself!
