Frequent travellers discuss lesser-known destinations that left a lasting impression on them.

It’s true that cities like Paris, Tokyo, New York City, and Rome attract a lot of visitors, and for good reason; yet, there is still value in visiting a location that isn’t always at the top of everyone’s “must-see” list. And there’s nothing like going somewhere new, having your expectations completely blown away, and then going back for more. This is especially true of lesser-known or off-the-beaten-path destinations.

Therefore, I compiled a large number of suggestions for vacation spots from the BuzzFeed Community. In this section, you will learn about the destinations that visitors passed over despite later proclaiming themselves to be their favourites. Oh, and just so you know, we have shortened or otherwise modified some submissions for clarity or length.
Defoes LifeStyle
1.The north of Greece: “People mostly go to the Greek islands and don’t spend much time on the mainland, but places like Halkidiki in Northern Greece are also very nice! And most people don’t know about the wildlife preserves on the mainland.”

2.Estonia: “Any of the Baltic states would be fine, but Estonia is a wonderful place to live.
It’s very cheap and easy to get around, Tallinn, the capital, is beautiful and clean, the coast is beautiful, the people are nice, and the food is delicious. I loved our trip there, and it would be a great place to stay if you want to visit Finland, Norway, or Denmark, which are all close by.”

3.Segovia, Spain: “When I was in Madrid, some locals told me I should go to Segovia for the day, and I’m so glad I did. It’s a great small town with a very interesting past. At sunset, the aqueduct makes the whole city look amazing. The castle and cathedral are also amazing. Segovia is the first thing I think of when I remember my trip to Madrid.”

4.Dakar, Senegal: “Dakar and the area around it should be considered one of Africa’s “main hubs,” along with Cape Town, Nairobi, Johannesburg, Abidjan, and Cairo. It’s a beautiful city with a lot of French influence, and it’s a great place to start a trip in West Africa.”

5.Pienza, Italy: “Pienza is in Tuscany, but it’s a lot less busy and full of tourists than places like Siena, San Gimignano, and Florence. It’s a small, picture-perfect town where you can walk around, look at the views from the hills, and find hidden gems like family-run trattorias, cheese shops selling the local pecorino di Pienza, and more.”

6.Maastricht, Netherlands: “Maastricht is only an hour by train from Amsterdam, so it’s easy to visit for the day. I went there on a whim, and it was my favourite part of the trip.”

7.In Scotland, the Southern Uplands: “Most tourists skip Scotland’s south and go straight to the Highlands, such as the Isle of Skye. Because of this, the Southern Uplands tend to be less busy and quieter.”

8.The state of New Mexico: “Albuquerque, Taos, and the New Mexico desert, in particular, are not as well known as they should be. The culture and history are unique, the food is delicious, and the scenery is breathtaking. When you see the pink Sandia Mountains at sunset, you’ll understand why it’s called “The Land of Enchantment.””

9.Tasmania, Australia: “People think of beaches and coral reefs when they think of Australia. On the other hand, Tasmania is known for its huge rain forests, beautiful islands, and Hobart, which is one of the largest Antarctic ports in the world.”

10.Oman: “Oman is a great place for people who love the outdoors. You can go hiking, camping, dune bashing, and there are miles of undeveloped coastline to see. Even lush rain forests can be found.”
